Tips for Rabbit Hunting With A Pellet Gun

When hunting rabbits with a pellet gun, one of the most important things to remember is that you take to right shot. A good hunting day can easily be spoilt if you end up having track down a wounded animal because of a bad shot. Each animal has certain kill zones that should be learned before hunting.

The chest shot is the one of the easiest places to shoot a rabbit because it is a fairly large part of the body. However, it does not always kill the rabbit so you should only use it if you have a powerful pellet gun. The target is the lungs, heart, and pulmonary arteries. If the pellet rifle is powerful enough and the shot is well placed, the animal should die quickly with minimal damage to the meat. Make sure that you do not aim to low or you may hit the rabbit in the leg and simply wound it. Rabbits have a lot thicker skin than most other small prey so you should use a more powerful rifle for rabbit pellet gun hunting compared to other animals like birds or squirrels.

A head shot is the most difficult of kills but it is by far the most common. This shot can be difficult unless you are experience with a pellet rifle, but practice makes perfect. Once you have had a good amount of practice with your gun you should be able to make a head shot without too much difficulty. Ideally, he shot should be placed right between the ears towards the back of the head. Of course, the animal will not always be in that position so you can take any head shot if you see an opening. Be very careful not to hit the ears otherwise the animal will just be partially wounded and easily able to run away. It is helpful to have a rifle that can rapidly fire off multiple shots when out hunting with a pellet gun.
