Alternative Egg Poachers

If you are a chef, you would know how to poach an egg without having to buy an egg poacher at all, but most of us think of a shallow pan or skillet topped with an poaching insert and a lid when we think of an egg poacher.

These days, however, there are a number of alternatives you can use and some of these both cost less and take up less space than a traditional pan.

The first alternative is a microwave egg poacher. With these you just add a drop of water and an egg to each depression in the gadget, prick a hole in each yolk (to avoid it exploding!) then close the lid and microwave for two minutes. You can have your breakfast very quickly this way and there is very little washing up to do either.

Another alternative is a silicone poaching cup, which you float on any pan of boiling water for about 4 minutes while your egg cooks. You need to spray these with oil before use, and then add a cracked egg to each one and that is it. Silicone is naturally non-stick and the eggs tend to turn out of the cups very easily, especially as silicone doesn’t get hot and you can hold it without burning yourself to get your egg out. They come in nice bright colors too and great sounding brands like “Poach Pods“.

These days you can also get machines which boil eggs as well as poach them. These egg cookers use electricity and have an element in the base to heat the water rather than putting them on the stove otherwise they work exactly the same as a standard poaching pan.

Finally there are machines you can buy which boil or poach eggs and make the toast for an all in one breakfast sandwich making machine. Even though this sounds like a bit of a mad gadget, they do save space in the kitchen and they work very well. You can use them as standard toasters if you don’t want to cook eggs every time.

Unhealthy fats would be a good place to start. Beware of hidden fats in meat, pastries, milk, margarine (use butter instead of margarine, if you need to, margarine is an unnatural and it is toxic to the body), fast food products have a huge percentage of fat and carbohydrates, and they are not actually made out of mea but a mixture containing some meat, soy, additives and fat.

Fats should be consumed as much as possible from natural sources (olives instead of olive oil, for example) and uncooked (raw). The best way to lose weight is to take care of your body and of your diet.

Do not eliminate all the fat from your diet. This is an illogical and dangerous practice. You must know how to choose healthy fats. There are fats like conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) that really help burn fat. CLA also helps absorb fats and transport fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Some supplements like chitosan reduce the absorption of fats and therefore of vitamins, avoid taking this type of “fat-blockers” along with vitamins and minerals if you want to shed your weight.

Carbohydrates with a high glycemic index – confectionery, sweets, cakes, candy, soft drinks, white bread, rice, potatoes, and even natural fruit juices (because they do not have plant fiber to slow down the absorption of carbohydrates their levels in the blood rises too quickly and are likely to deposit as fat).

In contrast, proteins in food should be kept at a medium level, avoiding both excess and lack of protein. Why? Because they help increase muscle mass. They burn more calories through digestion, they keep you full for a longer period of time, it is less likely to deposit as fat.

Those are the basic weight loss nutrition tips that will help you lose weight faster than ever.

Perfume Review: CH Men By Carolina Herrera

CH Men By Carolina Herrera was launched in 2009 as direct counterpart of CH for women.

The opening notes of this perfume evolve along two lines: one of citrus mandarin notes, the other one more aromatic but not definable yet, but it’s definitely between chocolate, coffee, leather, and tonka beans. In the middle notes, the citrus side incorporates sweeter notes, probably vanilla. Gradually, the perfume evolves towards a central note of water, tobacco, and cedar wood (which reminds of the Angel perfume for men B*Men). After about three hours, the perfume improves considerably, developing a sweet tone, which makes the cedar and tobacco more attractive. The watery note is a mix of mandarin, orange and bergamot, together with a secondary spicier note, between cinnamon and nutmeg. The base notes remain unchanged (very similar to Vera Wang for men), except for an additional note of anise or maybe saffron.

This fragrance seems to follow a trend of re-launching and modernization of tobacco, by making it less smoked and more watery. In the first part, this perfume reminds of many other perfumes, but towards the end, becoming more mature and easier to remember among the others.

The tobacco and wood belong to winter cold days, but the inclusion of watery notes make this perfume suitable for the rest of the year. However if you are looking for something a little different check out Dior Homme Intense as well.

It is more than appropriate for an office environment, especially if you work place brings you in close contact to other people (as opposed to, for example, giving presentations in large rooms).
As an evening perfume, it gives a very neat and clean image, especially in closed spaces. On the romantic side, this perfume gives its best with the sweet base notes, so CH Men may or not be attractive, depending on the type of skin, and on how long it takes to get to that point.

Simple Eyelet Curtains Can Make a Difference

Eyelet curtains may be just the thing for you if you have many windows to cover and not much of a budget to cover them. When my family and I moved into a rented house some time ago, we found that there were some eighteen windows in the place and none of them had any sort of window treatments at all. That was part of the price we had to pay to get our children into a school district that we found desirable, so we accepted the fact and set about deciding what to do about the windows.

Even as we were still moving in, I dispatched my sister to a nearby home improvement store with measurements for some inexpensive venetian blinds for less than five dollars per window so that we would at least have some privacy while we explored our other options. They were adequate to keep out prying eyes, but didn’t do much for the aesthetics of the house. The next day, armed with the measurements I’d taken, my wife took the kids and told me she was going to find some more suitable window coverings.

Within a few hours the troops were back home, bearing packages of ready made curtains for our windows. My wife had bought an assortment of lined and unlined curtains and rods for them. As I looked at them, I saw that they were eyelet curtains, which pleased me, because they would be easy to mount and sure would brighten up our rooms.

These inexpensive curtains had eyelets along the tops which were meant to have the rods inserted through them, which made hanging them quick and easy. She didn’t get them for all the windows at that time, and over several weeks she bought more expensive and complex draperies for the windows in the living and dining rooms.

Still, it was nice to have the inexpensive eyelet curtains up and in place quickly to make the house more livable and attractive while we settled in.

How to Effectively Remove Old and Outdated Wall Mount Faucets

One of the common reasons why people decide to replace their old wall mount faucets is to update or enahnce the look of their bathroom. To some, removing outdated or broken bathroom faucets may seem like a difficul task. But with a little know-how, along with the help of a detailed step-by-step guide, accomplishing the task can be done with ease.

To help you ensure that, here is a simple guide that will teach you how to effectively remove a wall-mounted faucet.

Step one: Turn off the main water valve

Before you commence with the actual faucet removal, you have to turn off the main water supply in order to block the water from entering the line connected to the old faucet. Use a wrench or plier to easily close the water valve.

Step two: Reveal the screws by disconnecting the plastic handle insert at the center of the faucet’s handle.

Wall mount kitchen faucets often feature decorative plastic inserts that are marked with the letter ‘c’ and ‘h’, which stands for cold and hot. Remove the inserts to expose the screws, and with with the help of a flathead screwdriver, take off the screws to detach the handle from the faucet.

Step three: Take off the trim plate to reveal the faucet’s valve.

Check what holds the faucet’s trim plate in place. Is it attached by screws or it has a bead of caulking around the edge? If the trim plate is affixed by screws, use a screwdriver to detach it from the wall. Meanwhile, if caulking is used instead of screws, use a plastic patty knife to cut through it, and then carefully remove the trim plate.

Step four: Discard the bonnet nut surrounding the tip of the faucet.

With the use of an adjustable wrench, turn the nut into a clockwise direction and then slowly pull it out from the faucet.

Step five: Take out the faucet’s valve from the inside wall.

Insert a deep-set socket over the tip of the valve, and then spin it until you have locked it into the valve. Afterwhich, get a socket wrench and turn it to a clockwise direction to loosen the valve. Once you have loosened the valves, you may now gently remove the old wall mounted faucet from the wall.

Rim Locks Add Style to Any Door

Rim locks, also known as box locks, operate with a two-lever mechanism. They have been around for several hundred years. Before the lock industry was established in the United States during the 1830s, these locks were imported from England and Europe. Those days, home owners would use rim locks for all doors, including their front and back entrances.
The rim lock has a box like appearance, hence the nickname of box lock. They were initially a relatively simple design, although this has progressed throughout the years. The rim lock is mounted on the outside of the door with the body seen on the same side it is mounted on. Different eras each left their signature on the lock, either through the design of the lock, or the material they were made from, or both.

Very popular materials to make these locks out of include brass, wrought iron, zinc alloy, aluminum alloy, and bronze. The wrought iron and brass rim locks were brought from England and Europe. Later, the wrought iron was made in the states except for a period between 1890 and when it was reintroduced with the Colonial Revival Era of the 1930s.

Each new “fashion fad” left their mark, not only in the material of the main lock, but also the shape of it, the decorative face of it, and the material and shape of the handle. The face of some locks are smooth, with no raised decoration, while others are quite ornate. Although most rim locks are now a box shape, some of the earliest locks were very odd shapes.

Probably what attracts your eye first; however is the handle, which can be straight, a ring or a knob, and can be made of the same metal as the face plate or ornate glass or porcelain, among others. The Victorian rim lock, for instance, is brass with porcelain knobs, a rosette and a keyhole cover.

This very workable lock can add enchantment to your decor, and is often a conversation starter; especially if you have installed older Victorian or brass locks on your doors.
